Four of the top teams in the state will meet this weekend for the 39th Annual Fullerton College Classic hosted at Fullerton College inside the Hornet's Nest. The action tips off Friday, December 12th and continues through Saturday, December 13th.
The Teams
No. 2 Fullerton College (8–1 Overall)
The Hornets have taken down three of Northern California's top programs this season in No. 10 College of the Sequoias, No. 6 West Valley, and No. 22 Yuba. Fullerton's only loss came at the hands of No. 8 West LA on November 19th. Since then, FC followed up with strong wins over No. 4 Citrus and No. 13 San Bernardino Valley, Palomar, and Miramar.
Players to Watch: Jaqari Miles (17.3 ppg), Brayden Smith (13.3 ppg), Yoda Oke (12.8 ppg), Donovan Pitts (11.1 ppg), and Trey Thompson (8.7 ppg).
No. 8 West Los Angeles College (9-1 Overall)
West LA has been in the mix with top programs all season long notching wins over No. 2 Fullerton, No. 19 Saddleback, LA Southwest, and Riverside. The Cougar's only loss came at Moorpark in the Alvin Hunter Classic, hosted by San Bernardino Valley.
Players to Watch: Malachi Knight (18.1 ppg), Chase Coleman (16.2 ppg), Jase Stewart (10.5 ppg), and Titus Morris (8.5 ppg).
No. 11 San Diego City College (7-2 Overall)
San Diego City is on a tear ripping off six straight victories after dropping early games to West Valley and Yuba at the Tournament of Champions (hosted by Fullerton) in early November. Since then, the Knights have defeated Barstow, San Jose, Allan Hancock, De Anza, Cypress, and No. 25 Palomar. The Barstow victory gave head coach Mitch Charlens his 400th career victory.
Players to Watch: Dylan Griffin (14.7 ppg), Junior Camacho (13 ppg), and Cyprian Hyde (10.1 ppg)
No. 19 Saddleback College (6-4 Overall)
Saddleback opened the season with couple of heartbreak losses against tough opponents No. 16 Ventura and No. 8 West LA. Soon after, they beat MiraCosta, a scrappy Miramar team, Oxnard, and No. 20 Mt. San Jacinto. The Bobcats lost two more against San Diego Mesa and LA Trade Tech before knocking out Moorpark and DeAnza.
Players to Watch: Charlie Stallings (18.4 ppg), Mark Reichner (10.4 ppg), Adam Sevier (10 ppg), Christopher Williams (10 ppg), Malachi Hiers (9.8 ppg), Michael Bichel (8.8 ppg).
The crossover tournament will begin this Friday, December 12th and end on Saturday December 13th with two games being played each day in the Hornet's Nest.
