The FC women's basketball team showed grit in their home opener on Saturday battling No. 6 in state Glendale College in a tight game that ended with a 57-49 Hornet loss in overtime.
The Hornets came out strong in the opening quarter hanging tough with one of the best teams in the state. By the sound of the buzzer ending the first, FC was only down by a point 14-13. Trading baskets with Glendale's balanced attack, Fullerton kept its steady tempo up in the second quarter outscoring the Vaqs 13-11 by the quarter's end. By the halftime break, the Hornets owned a 26-25 lead.
The fight was on in the third as both teams matched one another shot for shot. FC's Femi Nodal and Hailey Lakey as both knocked down key three-point shots as the quarter ended in a 34-34 tie. The fight continued in the fourth with Glendale grabbing a 46-42 lead, but by the end of regulation, a pair of layups by Hailey Lakey sent the game into overtime.
