The loss drops the Hornets to 10-11 overall and 2-3 in OEC play. Orange Coast, which had dropped its previous two conference games to Cypress College and Irvine Valley, rebounded with the win to improve to 15-6 overall and 3-2 in conference.
Fullerton came out on the right foot opening the game with a 7-1 run highlighted by a jumper from Savannah Hernandez. Momentum shifted late in the first quarter when McKenzie Gillman knocked down a three-pointer with 26 seconds remaining to give Orange Coast a 14-11 lead.
The Pirates caught fire from beyond the arc in the second quarter drilling five consecutive three-pointers to build a commanding 30-17 advantage heading into halftime.
Erin Choi led a second-half charge for the Hornets scoring 21 of her game-high 25 points after the break, but Orange Coast continued to extend the lead pushing it to as many as 24 points with three minutes remaining. The difference came in transition and on the glass as the Pirates outscored Fullerton 15-6 on points off turnovers and 12-4 on second-chance opportunities.
Choi finished with 25 points to lead all scorers, while Hailey Lakey added 10 points for the Hornets. Chloe Chang chipped in 8 points, and Kazey Cruz led Fullerton with seven rebounds.
Up Next: Fullerton (10-11 overall, 2-3 OEC) will look to get back on track when the team hits the road to face No. 11 Irvine Valley College on Wednesday, January 28th in another OEC showdown scheduled for 7:00 pm.
