The win now gives Fullerton a 4-3 overall record, while PCC bumps to 3-3 on the young season.
Fullerton held slim leads after the opening three quarters moving in front 14-12 after the first quarter, 31-26 at halftime, and 45-40 heading into the final frame. The Lancers had a heavy punch making a late push in the fourth. With a minute left in regulation, PCC's Lyndsey Valverde hit a jumper to help her team pull within one at 55-54. Then Monica Menzies put Pasadena on top (56-55) with a layup, however Femi Nodal stole the ball and was fouled trying to make a shot. She tied the game up at the free-throw line at 56 with 35 seconds left. Erin Choi then stepped up with ice in her veins going 4 for 4 from the line to seal the win in the final seconds for Fullerton.
It was a hard-fought game where both teams were nearly even in shooting with Fullerton connecting on 38.2% from the field compared to Pasadena City's 35.7%. The difference-maker was turnovers. The Hornets forced 22, while scoring 22 points from them.
Hailey Lakey led the way for FC pouring in a game-high 16 points while adding 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals and a block. Choi followed with 15 points going a perfect 9-9 at the free throw line. Femi Nodal added 7 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Chloe Chang chipped in with 5 points, 2 assists and 2 steals. Jaylene Perez made her impact on the defensive end recording 5 five steals along with 4 rebounds. Savannah Hernandez knocked down a three and finished with 5 points and brought down 5 rebounds.
