The Hornets had to dig out of a hole in the first quarter after the Warriors took a 10-5 lead by the fifth minute. A layup by Kazey Cruz and a jumper by Hailey Lakey brought FC within a point (10-9) by the end of the quarter.
FC snagged the lead at the beginning of the second quarter with three straight three-pointers courtesy of Femi Nodal, Erin Choi, and Chloe Chang for an 18-12 advantage. El Camino quietly snuck back into it at 22-21 by the halftime break hitting on a long-distance trey by Leah Richards as time ran out.
Both teams came into the third quarter ready for a battle and that's what the fan got as Hailey Lakey got hot scoring 8 of the Hornet's 10 points. El Camino spread the ball around well keeping pace with 8 points, but Fullerton maintained a narrow 32-29 lead. FC made its move in the fourth going on a 7-2 run (39-31) gaining some breathing room on Erin Choi's jumper at the four-minute mark. With just over a minute left in regulation, the Hornets owned a 43-33 advantage before running out clock for the win.
Hailey Lakey led the charge for Fullerton scoring a game-high 18 points with 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Erin Choi followed with 12 points going 5-6 at the free-throw line. Jaylene Perez helped out scoring 6 points and brought down a game-high 11 rebounds. Chloe Chang put up 5 points and Kazey Cruz had 9 rebounds.
Up Next: The Hornets (1-1 overall) will head up north to the bay area to play San Francisco City College this Friday, November 7th at 3:00 pm. Then on Saturday, November 8th, FC will take on Santa Rosa at 5:30 pm.
