The Hornets delivered one of their biggest wins of the season Friday night taking down conference leader Santa Barbara City College 3-1 at home in a big division matchup.
Riding the energy of the Hornets Nest, Fullerton claimed the match with set scores of 25-23, 20-25, 24-21, and 25-23 securing its third consecutive victory and gaining revenge after being swept by the Vaqueros earlier this season.
The win pushes Fullerton to 11-7 overall and 7-3 in conference play, which tightens the race in the standings. Santa Barbara came in hot with only one division loss drops to 14-4 overall and is now 8-2 in division-play.
The match itself was tightly contested from start to finish as FC edged out a gritty first set 25-23 before Santa Barbara responded in the second. The turning point came in the third set, where the Hornets held off a late Vaquero push to take a 2-1 lead. Then, with the scored tied 23-23 in the fourth set, a key block by Samuel Chavez and a strong serve by Jasper Nadelson sealed the 24th and 25th points to seal the match.
Fullerton was powered huge performance by Samuel Chavez, who led all players with 21 kills. Chavez consistently delivered in key moments, especially late in sets helping the Hornets maintain control during tight stretches.
Logan Busch added 10 kills and was a force at the net defensively with 4 blocks, while Jasper Nadelson chipped in 7 kills and made his presence felt with 6 blocks. Seth Asaoka contributed 7 kills of his own.
Running the offense smoothly was Emiliano Razo, who dished out 41 assists, had 6 digs and 2 blocks. Defensively, Saman Bagheri anchored the back row with a team-high 15 digs, while Chavez added 6 digs to complement his offensive numbers.
Up Next: Fullerton will host another conference match this Wednesday, April 1st when Moorpark comes to the Hornets Nest. Match time is set for 6:00 pm.
