It took everything they had, but the FC men's volleyball team pulled off a strong win at home Friday night outlasting LA Pierce in a five-set battle 3-2.
With the win, Fullerton improves to 9-7 overall and 5-3 in Northern Division play, while the Brahmas fall to 6-10 overall and 4-8 in division action.
The match was a back-and-forth war from the opening serve with both teams trading blows throughout the night. Fullerton set the tone early edging out a tight first set 25-23.
The Hornets followed with another gritty performance in set two. Trailing late, Fullerton rallied to even the score and closed it out 25-22. A key serve run by Logan Busch helped swing momentum and gave the Hornets a 2-0 match advantage.
But LA Pierce refused to go quietly. The Brahmas responded by taking control of the next two sets 25-21 and 25-22 forcing a decisive fifth set.
The fifth set Locked in a tight battle, neither team gave an inch until late. With the score tied at 15-15, Nadelson delivered in the biggest moment hammering down a kill to give Fullerton the edge. Moments later, a LA Pierce attack sailed out of bounds sealing the 17-15 victory for the Hornets.
Samuel Chavez led the offensive charge with a match-high 21 kills, while Jasper Nadelson added 16 kills. Logan Busch chipped in 15 kills with 12 digs, and Emiliano Razo dished out 43 assists. Saman Mohammed was solid in the back row with a team-high 21 digs.
Up Next: Fullerton (9-7, 5-3 Northern Division) hits the road Wednesday, March 25th when they take a trip to Antelope Valley College for another key division matchup. First serve is set for 6:00 pm.
