The Hornets showed resilience on the road Friday night rallying from a two-set deficit to defeat Long Beach City College in a dramatic five-set reverse sweep 3-2.
After dropping the first two sets 25-15 and 25-23, the Hornets regrouped and stormed back to win the next three sets 25-23, 25-21, and 15-10 to secure a huge Northern Division victory over the Vikings.
With the win, Fullerton improves to 8-6 overall and 4-2 in Northern Division play helping their playoff hopes in the conference standings.
Long Beach came out firing early taking control of the match with efficient hitting and aggressive play at the net to claim the opening two sets. The Vikings hit .333 in the first set and followed with a strong .281 attack percentage in the second putting the Hornets on their heels early.
The Hornets flipped the script in the third set behind a balanced offensive attack and improved defense edging the Vikings 25-23 to extend the match. Fullerton continued to build momentum in the fourth set using key defensive stops and timely swings to take a 25-21 victory and force a decisive fifth set.
In the final frame, the Hornets seized control early and never looked back, finishing the comeback with a 15-10 win to complete the reverse sweep.
Fullerton was powered offensively by Samuel Chavez, who delivered a match-high 17 kills on 39 swings while adding 11 digs for a strong all-around performance. Logan Busch was equally effective with 11 kills on a blistering .375 hitting percentage, while also contributing 15 digs and 3 blocks. Seth Asaoka added another major offensive spark with 10 kills while hitting an impressive .529. Emiliano Razo dished out 36 assists while adding 8 digs. The Hornets totaled 50 kills as a team and played a strong defensive match with 57 digs and 13 total blocks.
The comeback victory marks one of the Hornet's most resilient performances of the season and keeps the team firmly in the Northern Division race as division-play continues.
