FC WINS OEC OPENER - SLAMS SADDLEBACK
The No. 2 Hornets let it be known that they are dead set on another OEC title after dismantling No. 20 Saddleback 98-60 to open Orange Empire Conference-play at home Wednesday night.
The No. 2 Fullerton College Hornets made a strong statement to open Orange Empire Conference play dismantling No. 20 Saddleback College 98-60 Wednesday night at home.
The convincing win pushes Fullerton to 14-1 overall and 1-0 in the OEC, while also marking the Hornet's 37th straight victory in the Nest dating back to the 2022-23 season. Saddleback falls to 9-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Saddleback struck first with a quick bucket, but the Hornets quickly took control erupting on an 11-2 run to seize momentum. The run was capped by a nice jumper by Jaedyn Patterson. Fullerton continued to pour it on in the first half building a 33-12 lead before extending the advantage to 49-28 by the break thanks to a balanced scoring attack.
Fullerton stayed red-hot in the second half knocking down five more three-pointers, including two from Jonas Hanson, and cruising the rest of the way. The Hornets finished the night shooting an efficient 62.5 percent from beyond the arc and 61.7 percent from the field.
The Hornets dominated the paint and the glass, out-rebounding Saddleback 40-26 and scoring 52 points inside. The Bobcats struggled to keep pace, shooting just 34.6 percent from the floor.
Yoda Oke led all scorers with 23 points while adding 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Hornets finished in double figures, including Kairi Shepherd (13), Bishop Brooks (10), Trey Thompson (10), and Brayden Smith (10). Donovan Pitts and Jaedyn Patterson chipped in 9 points apiece with Patterson narrowly missing a double-double after dishing out 10 assists.
