The Hornets split games at the Orange Empire Conference Championships held at Orange Coast College over the weekend falling to Golden West 14-6 and beating Cypress 18-5.
Finishing off the regular-season, Fullerton's overall record stands at 17-14 overall and 3-4 in conference play giving the Hornets just enough to earn a No. 8 spot in the Southern California Regionals.
Facing a strong Golden West squad, the Hornets fell behind early and couldn't recover as the Rustlers built a 5-0 first-quarter lead on the way to a 14-6 victory. FC's Ava Spear continued to shine offensively scoring 4 goals on 10 shots to lead the Hornet attack. Eliana Fernandez added a goal with 2 assists, while Alissa Jacobs chipped in a goal as well. Goalies Sienna Bertsch and Audrey Jurado split time evenly combining for 8 saves.
The Hornets bounced back in a big way on Saturday overpowering Cypress with an offensive surge to close out conference play on a high note. Fullerton outscored the Chargers in every quarter highlighted by an explosive first half where the Hornets jumped out to a 10-3 lead. Ava Spear and Isabella Castaneda were a great one-two punch as both had 5 goals apiece. Eliana Fernandez added 4 goals with an assist, while Shayla Summers netted 2 goals. In the cage, the trio of Sienna Bertsch, Audrey Jurado, and Arianna Worcester shared goalkeeping duties. Bertsch stopped 8 of 11 shots over two quarters, while Jurado and Worcester combined for 5 additional saves to seal the win.
