The No. 7 in state Fullerton College women’s water polo team put together a strong showing at the Battle of the Beach Tournament hosted by Long Beach City College this past weekend earning two wins while coming up just short in the other two matches.

The No. 7 in state Fullerton College women's water polo team put together a strong showing at the Battle of the Beach Tournament hosted by Long Beach City College this past weekend earning two wins while coming up just short in the other two matches.
The Hornets opened the tournament against a tough No. 10 Sierra squad on Friday. Despite a late rally, the Hornets fell 11-7. Ava Spear and Julianna Garcia delivered first-quarter goals to keep FC within striking distance, but Wolverine's early scoring run held up.
In the second game of the day, FC bounced back with a big 11-10 win against Merced. Ava Spear led the way with 4 goals while Eliana Fernandez chipped in with 4 assists and 5 steals. Goalies Sienna Bertsch & Audrey Jurado both combined for 8 saves.
On Saturday, the Hornets continued their momentum with a solid 10-7 victory over LA Valley thanks to a balanced offensive attack and a standout defensive performance in the cage. Julianna Garcia had a great game with a game-high 4 goals. Eliana Fernandez followed up with 3 goals of her own. FC goalkeeper Sienna Bertsch was strong in the cage with 13 saves to earn the win.
Fullerton played a tough match against Cuesta College in the fourth and final game of the tournament falling 10-8 in overtime. The Hornets fought hard against No.6 team in the state but could not pull off the upset.
Up Next: The Hornets (16-11 overall, 2-3 OEC) will play a three-way with Azusa Pacific and Biola this Friday, October 31st.
