HORNETS SECURE AN OEC WIN AT GOLDEN WEST
The Hornets took a trip down to Huntington Beach on Wednesday afternoon and came away with a solid 13-9 Orange Empire Conference victory over Golden West.
The Hornets took a trip down to Huntington Beach on Wednesday afternoon and came away with a solid 13-9 Orange Empire Conference victory over Golden West.
Shayla Summers got the Hornets rolling with the first goal of the match, while Mckenna Dunning and Isabella Castaneda quickly followed to give Fullerton a 3-0 lead. Golden West responded with two goals of its own, however FC ended the first quarter with a 3-2 advantage.
The Hornets took control in the second quarter outscoring Golden West 5-1. Fernandez, Dunning and Julianna Garcia each added to the tally as Fullerton went into halftime with a commanding 8-3 advantage.
Golden West clawed back in the third quarter behind goals from Sienna Abernathy and Hanna Menyhart, but the Hornets stayed steady. Dunning added two more goals in the period, and Castaneda's second score kept Fullerton in front, 11-8.
In the final quarter, Dunning struck twice pushing the Hornet lead to 13-8. Golden West added a late goal, but Fullerton had already secured the much-needed conference win.
Mckenna Dunning was unstoppable scoring 6 goals with 2 assists to lead the Hornet offense. Shayla Summers added 4 goals and 3 assists giving Fullerton another major spark. Eliana Fernandez tallied 1 goal, 2 assists, while Isabella Castaneda and Julianna Garcia each scored twice.
In the cage, goalkeeper Sienna Bertsch came up big with 15 saves, including several key stops in the second half.
