Decimated by injuries early in the season, the Hornets banded together turning what could have been a long season into one that named them champs.

The 2016 season came to an end on Saturday at the Southern California Championships after losing to Riverside City College 11-5 in the semi-finals.

The tournament began well enough with #2 Fullerton knocking off #7 Ventura College 15-10. Gabbi Perez was a force for FC scoring 9 goals. She also added 2 assists and had 5 steals. Bianca Vera tossed in 4 goals and Marissa Vaccher contributed 5 assists.

In the semi-final game against #3 Riverside, the Tiger's roster depth was too much for the Hornets. Double and triple teamed, Gabbi Perez was held to 1 goal. Marissa Vaccher managed 2 goals, while Ashley Garcia and Veronica Ramirez scored a goal each.

In the meaningless Third Place game, Fullerton lost to #4 Golden West College 6-5. Bianca Vera scored 3 goals and Veronica Ramirez had 2.

It was an exciting 2016 season for the Orange Empire Conference Champion Hornets (22-10 overall, 7-2 OEC). This was a fun team to watch with many talented players that will be back for another run next season.

#1 Santa Barbara City College won the Southern California Championship beating Riverside in the title game 10-7. Both teams will advance to the CCCAA State Championships held in the North at Las Positas College November 18-19.
