Filip Tomicic was born and raised in Osijek, Croatia where he graduated from business high school. While in Croatia, Filip played professionally with the National team, winning Gold in the European League as well as two national championships. He then left Croatia in hopes to earn a college degree and play volleyball at the collegiate level.
Filip received a scholarship to attend and play for the men’s volleyball team at California Baptist University, where his team went on to win the 2010 National Championship. The following year, Filip went on to play at Cal State Northridge, finishing this season in the playoffs of the MPSF conference championship. Filip finished his volleyball career at Hope International University, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management with a minor in Biblical studies. While playing for Hope, Filip was named setter of the year and first team All-conference, this concludes Filip’s success as a professional and collegiate athlete.
Tomicic began his coaching career in learning from elite coaches, as he had the opportunity of assisting the Women’s National Team in Croatia. Once Filip moved to the United States, he began coaching club volleyball. He coached at both Top Gun Volleyball Club and SG Elite while still attending school. During college, Filip was also an assistant for the women’s volleyball team at Mt. SAC Community College and volunteer assistant at Cal State Fullerton.
Upon graduation, Filip set forth to open a volleyball club of his own. Filip opened ProPlay Volleyball Club in 2013 and is currently running and directing 14 teams and over 150 athletes. In addition to ProPlay Volleyball Club, Filip was also named the Head Women’s Varsity Volleyball Coach at Rosary Academy, where he is currently running a successful program of his own.
