In an Orange Empire Conference match, the Hornets gave a valiant effort but fell on the road to Cypress College 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
The loss drops Fullerton to 4-11-1 overall and 2-6-1 in OEC-play (6th place), while the Chargers improve to 12-4 overall and 6-3 in conference (3rd place).
Squaring off with the No. 7 team in the in the state, the Hornets held their own defensively throughout much of the match. Sophomore goalkeeper Kimmy Sperling anchored the defense with 5 saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal. Despite her efforts, the Chargers managed to find the net once in each half.
Cypress broke through in the 11th minute when Ilaila Ramirez scored off an assist from Angela Herrera putting the Chargers up 1-0. Fullerton continued to defend with resilience, limiting scoring chances for the remainder of the first half.
In the 76th minute, the Chargers broke through extending their lead as Briselda Tellez converted on a pass from Alexa Manjarrez Belarde to make it 2-0. The Hornets continued to battle but couldn't capitalize on limited offensive opportunities.
Up Next: The Hornets (4-11-1 overall, 2-6-1 OEC) will play this Friday, October 31st when the travel to Santiago Canyon for a scary OEC matchup against the No. 4 team in the state at 3:00 pm.
