The FC women's soccer team battled tough on the road but came up short in a 1-0 non-conference loss to Moorpark College on Tuesday.
The Hornets held strong defensively for most of the match behind goalkeeper Kimmy Sperling, who turned away 8 shots while facing 9 on goal. Her steady play along with strong team defense kept the game scoreless deep into the second half.
Moorpark finally broke through in the 86th minute when Mia Woods scored the game's lone goal on a corner kick that put the Raiders ahead for good.
Offensively, the Hornets created several opportunities recording 7 shots and 4 on frame. Liliana Prieto led the charge with three shots, including one on goal, while Edie Pfefferkorn added two shots and Mia Carrillo tested the goalkeeper with a strong strike in the first half.
