DAY THREE CR HOLIDAY CROSSOVER LANDS A VICTORY OVER CERRITOS

The Hornets finished off the 44th Colleen Riley Holiday Crossover with a victory over Cerritos College 72-57.

Playing its last game in 2023, the Sting Squad bumps their record to 7-5 overall winning four straight games winning four out of six games in December. The Cerritos defeat puts the Falcons at 3-11 overall.

The opening quarter was not a high-scoring affair as both teams were testing the waters looking for their shots. Fullerton broke up a 2-2 tie in the fifth minute on a three-pointer by Kaylee Shimoda. Cerritos' Miah Nayback squeezed through the lane for a layup at 1:08 for a 9-8 score. Xochitl Hood answered back with a layup of her own ending the quarter at 11-8.

FC created some separation in the second quarter with a 17-7 run (28-15) that was capped off with a jumper by Amya Iannone at 4:56. By halftime, Fullerton held a 37-21 lead.

The Hornets kept their distance for much of the third quarter but pushed the lead further in the fourth with a 21-point gap at the 4-minute mark thanks to a deep three by Shimoda. Fullerton's big lead allowed the team to hold the ball in the final minutes burring time off the clock for the non-conference win.

Xochitl Hood led the way for Fullerton with a game-high 25 points along with 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double on the season. She also added 5 assists and 2 steals. Kaylee Shimoda was 5 for 9 beyond the arc for 19 points with 5 assists on the night. Sarah Shaw was strong under the basket with 14 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Jasmine Arnold had 6 points, delivered 7 assists, and 3 steals. 

Up Next: The Hornets (7-5 overall) will have some time off for the Holiday break, but they will be ready to go on Thursday, January 4th when the team hosts Santa Barbara City College. Tipoff will be at 3:00 pm.
