HORNETS CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON WITH OEC SWEEP ON SOPHOMORE DAY
The FC softball team put the finishing touches on its regular season Thursday afternoon defeating Riverside City 3-1 home to complete a three-game Orange Empire Conference sweep.
The FC softball team put the finishing touches on its regular season Thursday afternoon defeating Riverside City 3-1 home to complete a three-game Orange Empire Conference sweep.
With the win, the Hornets ended the regular season with a 27-13 overall record and finished the at 15-6 in the OEC standings for second place.
It was a good finish for the second-year players who were honored prior to the start of the game for Sophomore Day. Those recognized by the Hornet coaching staff were Grace Workman, Juliana Ursino, Lisa Villanueva, Toafa Pua, Sam Vizcarra, Lily Rice, and Zoey Bautista.
For the game, Fullerton leaned on big hits late in the game and strong performances in the circle to secure the victory. After Riverside broke through with a run in the top of the third, the Hornets answered in the fifth inning when Alana Eisel delivered an RBI groundout that allowed Madison Beohm to score tying the game at 1-1.
The Hornets took control in the sixth thanks to Zoey Bautista's biggest swing of the day that lined in a two-RBI single to left-center that plated Camryn Zodrow and Carlie Danovich. When the dust settled, Fullerton owned a 3-1 lead it would not relinquish.
In the circle, Grace Workman set the tone with a solid start tossing 5.1 innings while allowing just 3 hits and a run, while striking out 6 batters. Sam Vizcarra closed the door in relief earning the win after 1.2 scoreless innings with 2 strikeouts.
