HORNETS EXPLODE FOR 14-RUN INNING ROUTING SANTIAGO CANYON
The bats came alive in a big way for Fullerton on Tuesday afternoon.
The Hornets erupted for 14 runs in the second inning, overwhelming Santiago Canyon College en route to a dominant 15-0 victory at Hornet Field to open Orange Empire Conference play.
With the win, Fullerton improves to 19-7 overall and 8-2 in OEC play, while Santiago Canyon falls to 11-18 overall, 3-8 in conference.
After a quiet first inning, Fullerton unleashed one of its most explosive frames of the season. The Hornets sent runner after runner across the plate, turning a tight game into a runaway in a matter of minutes.
Lisa Villanueva led the charge with another huge effort going 2-2 with 5 RBI, including a grand slam that broke the game wide open. She now owns 11 record-breaking home runs on the season. Faith Krueger added a two-run homer, while Carlie Danovich delivered a clutch two-RBI double during the inning.
The offensive surge didn't stop there. Juliana Ursino chipped in with multiple hits and RBI, and Madison Beohm added an RBI double in the third inning to cap the scoring. In total, Fullerton racked up 11 hits and 13 RBI for a total team effort.
In the circle, Emma Gamez (8-2) was untouchable. The right-hander tossed a complete-game shutout allowing no hits over 5 innings while striking out 6 and walking only 2. Gamez faced 19 batters on the day.
Up Next: The Hornets (19-7 overall, 8-2 OEC) will hit the road for game two of the OEC series this Thursday, April 2nd when the team travels to Santiago Canyon for a 2:00 pm matchup.
