The No. 7 Hornets were victorious in game one of the three-game Orange Empire Conference series beating Santa Ana College 1-0 at home on Tuesday.
Locked in a classic pitcher's duel, sophomore Emma Gamez delivered a dominant performance in the circle tossing a complete-game shutout scattering 3 hits over seven innings while striking out 4 and walking one. She is now to 7-2 on the season.
The Hornets manufactured the game's only run in the bottom of the fifth when pinch runner Camryn Zodrow crossed the plate on Lily Rice's ground-out-RBI to get the job done.
Fullerton finished with three hits on the day, including knocks from Madison Beohm, Dakoda Hilvers, and Zoey Bautista.
Defensively, the Hornets were sharp throughout, backing Gamez with great plays that included two line-drive catches by Zoey Bautista at second base. Right fielder Alana Eisel also had a great catch stretching out for one in the right center gap.
Up Next: The Hornets (16-5 overall, 5-2 OEC) will head to Santa Ana College for game two of the series against the Dons this Thursday, March 26th at 2:00 pm.
