The FC softball team put together a dominant weekend on the road sweeping three games at Bakersfield College while allowing just one total run to cap an impressive showing.
Fullerton opened the weekend Friday with a 2-0 shutout of Fresno at the beautiful Dean & Adah Gay Sports Complex. After a scoreless first three innings, Lisa Villanueva broke through in the fourth with a solo home run to give the Hornets the lead. An insurance run came in the seventh when pinch hitter Madison Beohm knocked in Faith Krueger. In the circle, Emma Gamez was lights-out tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing just 2 hits, a walk, and struck out 6 batters.
The second game on Friday night belonged entirely to the Hornets beginning with a 6-1 win over Bakersfield. Fullerton struck early once again as leadoff hitter Alana Eisel opened the scoring with a home run. The offense stayed relentless with RBIs from Villanueva (2), Juliana Ursino (2), and Anela Quinones (1). Grace Workman earned the win in the circle, throwing a complete game while giving up 4 hits, a walk, and recorded 5 strikeouts.
On Saturday, Fullerton rolled to an 8-0 shutout over Bakersfield to complete the sweep. Krueger set the tone in the first inning with a double that plated Sakai Smith and Ursino. Villanueva stayed red hot launching a two-run homer in the third. Fullerton added two runs in both the fourth and seventh innings to put the game away. Gamez capped the weekend with another complete-game effort striking out 11 while allowing only 3 hits.
Up Next: The Hornets (5-1 overall) won't play again until Friday, February 13th. The team heads back on the road for a nightcap with Citrus College at 6:00 pm.
