In an Orange Empire Conference home-game on Thursday, the Hornets walked it off 7-6 against Golden West College.
Both teams went toe-to-toe in a back-and-forth battle that came down to the very last swing. Fullerton needed the win after dropping the first game of the three-game series on Tuesday 5-0 at the Rustler's field.
After jumping out to a quick 6-1 lead by the end of the third, the Hornets looked to be in control, however the Rustlers wouldn't go quietly. They chipped away with three runs in the fifth and tied it with two more in the sixth, setting the stage for a nail-biting finish.
Tied 6-6 heading into the bottom of the eighth, Fullerton needed just one run. With two outs and the pressure mounting, Bethany Morrison stepped to the plate cracking a double to left field that sent in Hope Morales for the winning run.
Zoey Bautista had a great day at the plate with 3 hits. Juliana Ursino also had a big day with 3 hits with 1 run and 2 RBI.
FC starting pitcher Grace Workman went a full 8 innings giving up 8 hits, walking 4, had 2 strikeouts, and allowed 4 earned runs.
Up Next: The Hornets (13-20 overall, 7-7 OEC) will play the final game of the series this Friday, April 18th when they travel to Golden West College. The first pitch goes out at 2:00 pm.
