The win bumps Fullerton to 11-1 overall as the team produced its 7th straight win. Santa Monica drops to 3-10 overall.
It was truly a game of two different halves for the Hornets as the team came out a bit cold in the first half shooting 28.1% while falling behind16-6 in the opening minutes. By the three-minute mark, FC pulled within two (22-20) thanks to a jumper by Yoda Oke and a three-pointer by Bishop Brooks. By halftime, Fullerton was down 30-25 but had found its groove heading into the second half.
The locker-room break served the Hornets well as the team shot a strong 58.6% in the second half. FC snagged its first lead of the game in the 12th minute on a layup by Brayden Smith. A few minutes later, Donovan Pitts got hot dropped a trey, a layup and a jumper on consecutive possessions lifting the Hornets 50-42. From there, Hornets stepped up defensively and locked the Corsairs down for the non-conference win.
Donovan Pitts came off the bench to spark the team dropping a game-high 20 points- his second-best scoring output of the season. Yoda Oke put up 16 points with 8 boards and 3 assists. Brayden Smith had a double-double night with 13 points with 11 rebounds and 3 steals.
