The Hornet football squad held a very lively team scrimmage on Thursday, and by the looks of it, this team is more than ready to get into game action.
Fullerton was supposed to host Palomar College on Hal Sherbeck Field for Thursday's scrimmage, but COVID-19 protocol prevented the Comets from coming up for the pre-season tune-up. It did not matter as the Hornet team-energy and enthusiasm were evident after waiting to get back on the field for nearly two years.
"Our staff felt that it [scrimmage] went well. It was unfortunate that Palomar wasn't able to come and work with us, but our players did a great job of playing football and ignoring the distractions", FC Head Coach Garrett Campbell.
The offensive looked solid with each unit, helmed by four different quarterbacks, making plays down the field. The FC defense is known for its swarm-mentality, and they did not disappoint as multiple defenders were involved in many gang-tackles.
Coach Campbell set the tone for the high-energy scrimmage with a pre-game speech letting his players know that their opponents are faceless- put your head down and get to work as this season may present last minute changes playing during a pandemic.
"I'm looking forward to playing our first opponent- whoever that may be. Like the late great Hornet Head Coach Gene Murphy would say, 'Our opponent is nameless and faceless, because it's really about us!' If there was ever a year that was true, it's this 2021 football season", said Coach Campbell.
Up Next: Santa Ana College announced that they will not be able to play their scheduled game at Fullerton on Saturday September 4th due to COVID-19 issues.
