Prior to the game, longtime baseball friend and supporter Jerry Johnson was honored by coaches Chad Baum, Rick Vanderhook, and John Knott for his 80th birthday delivering the first pitch that set the tone for a day centered on tradition, community, and baseball.
Mt. SAC jumped out early scoring four runs in the first three innings to take a 4-0 lead. The Hornets answered in the bottom of the fifth when Niko Mendez lined a deep sacrifice fly to bring home a run and get Fullerton on the board.
The game turned in the sixth as the Hornet offense broke out. Sean Green sparked the rally with a two-run single to center field scoring Diego Vazquez and Jake Starr to pull FC within one. Moments later, Coen Goeas ripped a double to left center to even the score, and Carlos Barrios followed with a clutch two-run single to give the Hornets a 6-4 advantage.
Green added the exclamation point in the eighth inning launching a solo home run that sailed well over 400 feet over the left center ivy.
