GETTING THE BEST OF GOLDEN WEST
The Fullerton College baseball team continued its strong run of form Tuesday afternoon with a big 8-1 victory over visiting Golden West, fueled by timely hitting, lockdown pitching, and a deep bullpen performance.

The Fullerton College baseball team continued its strong run of form Tuesday afternoon with a big 8-1 victory over visiting Golden West, fueled by timely hitting, lockdown pitching, and a deep bullpen performance.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning, the Hornets quickly responded in the second when Trevor Schmidt blasted a solo home run over the center field ivy to tie the game up 1-1.
From there, Fullerton's offense went to work. In the third, Dillon Anderson singled in Nate Pone, and then Schmidt followed with an RBI single of his own to score Anderson. The Hornets added another in the fourth on a double from Diego Vazquez plating Jake Starr. Fullerton exploded for three more runs in the sixth, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Luke Viola. Jake Larson added the finishing touch in the seventh with an RBI single to score Noah Rodriguez.
On the mound, FC starter Julian Castro locked down the victory with 5 strong innings with only 3 hits, an earned run, while striking out 4. The bullpen took care of the rest, with Manny Lopez, Joel Sanchez, and Christian Valent combining for 4 shutout innings, with 6 strikeouts, and no walks. Valent sealed the game with two punchouts in the ninth.
