Former Hornet left handed pitcher Bill Riddell has passed away in his sleep on Tuesday night due to pancreatic cancer.
A local product, Bill played at Troy High School in 1973-74 and was an outstanding pitcher for the Warriors. Known for his great control and "nasty" stuff, Bill was one of the leaders of a very successful Troy Baseball program.
Riddell then transferred to Fullerton College and played two years for Coach Mike Sgobba.
Bill served as a teacher at Estancia High in Costa Mesa and resided in San Clemente with his wife, Diane.
Funeral arrangements are in the process of being planned on Thursday at a site to be determined.
"Baseball was a significant part of Billy's DNA. He was in love with playing or watching his favorite game. I was honored to have had the opportunity to coach Bill Riddell and his memory will forever be etched in my heart", Head Coach Nick Fuscardo.
